Heavy snow in London

Today I really woke up to a whole patch of white outside. It was snowing so heavily throughout the night. Heaviest snow that London had seen in a decade.

Pics of the snowing taken the night before.

Morning scenes I woke up to

I attempted to leave my place for work. After boarding my junior's car just outside my place, we concluded that it is too unsafe to drive out all the way to Fleet (which is 45min by train from Waterloo - considered far). So we decided to work from home and called the others to stay home too.

See the snow flakes?

The compound of my place.

See the thickness of the snow that built up.

It had caused alot of disruptions to many pple. Trains couldn't work, and all buses in London were suspended. There were also suspension on various parts of the Tube, with only the Victoria line running normally. Unbelievable right? To think that a city like London will come to almost a standstill due to snow.

The top layer of the pond is almost frozen.

A snowman that someone had built in the apartment compound. Quite cool.. but wait till u see the snowmans that come later :)

But then of course, snow also brought excitement to many pple including yours truly. I arranged to meet up with Ping and her flatmate Jill (both of whom also did not manage to make it to work) for lunch plus a snow session at the nearby Highbury and Islington Park.

It was really alot of fun building snowman and having mini snow ball fights. ;)

On my way to the park.

At the park.

With the snowman that the 3 of us built from scratch! Building a snowman is not as easy as u think it is. Its alot of hard work!

This is a massive snowman that some other pple built. They were really pro. They brought bottle corks and carrot for the eyes and nose! We used random leaves and branches for ours. haha..

The "snow angel" pose according to Ping.

Having a game of snow ball throwing with Jill.

Ping's masterpiece - an igloo and a mini snowman. Unfortunately its all white on a white background, so can't really make out the shape of the igloo.

Haha.. I like this snowman's hairstyle..

Whoever built this is really good and creative! The snowman is complete with boots. haha...

Leaving the park...

The Big Freeze

The Dailymail reports: "Get ready for the Big Freeze: Britain set to see heaviest snow fall since 2003"

Indeed, it had been snowing lightly the entire afternoon. Wonder if I'll wake up to an entire patch of white tomorrow morning? This does not usually happen in Central London. Shall wait and see :)

So how's everyone's new year? I didn't have much of CNY celebrations. Only went to Ivan and Justin's place for a small celebrations.

CNY mood... I didnt receive a single card from home. Sad... only got 1 from my junior who is English.

My only CNY card..

The gamblers!

Check out all the 1penny and 2 pence coins used in place of chips. Each penny represents 10pence for their game. and no, i didn't play.. See the big pile right at the end? That's the banker's winnings!

After that was dinner at China Palace @ Excel which was opposite his place across the Thames. We had a big table for 14 of us. Its been quite some time since I had a dinner with such a big group of pple at the same table. Food was good, and atmosphere was brilliant too. But I still miss the CNY mood at home...

Today, Federer lost to Nadal again.... I wonder if he will get to win another Grand Slam to make it 14, equivalent to Sampras' record? I wonder and I hope.
